Life with Cancer Launches New, Patient-Friendly Web Site

Site Design Features Easy-to-Use Online Calendar and Registration, Improved Accessibility and Resources for Patients and Families

Fairfax, VA—Life with Cancer™, a part of Inova Health System and Northern Virginia’s only community-based, nonprofit cancer education and support organization, has launched its new Web site, www.lifewithcancer.org. The site introduces a revamped user-friendly look with improved features, including a new comprehensive class calendar with online registration; easy access to information and resources tailored for patients, caregivers, teens and kids; quick links to Life with Cancer’s social media sites; and a newsroom for quick access to the latest Life with Cancer news. Additionally, the Web site has in-depth information about Life with Cancer’s Spanish-language programs and events, as well as improved access to Inova Cancer Services and Inova Health System resources.

The new site is made possible by a $50,000, two-year grant from the Side-Out Foundation, an organization dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer through volleyball tournaments across the nation. The grant’s primary goal is to advance Life with Cancer’s national presence and ability to educate and support those affected by cancer.

“We’re pleased to launch our new Web site to help provide more comprehensive resources to patients, families, friends and healthcare providers,” said Gordon Hay, Director, Life with Cancer. “As part of our efforts to expand regionally and nationally, our site will enable us to improve communications and outreach to those affected by cancer. As we continue to expand our service areas, our new site will be able to support our growing need to disseminate information to the community, as well as to receive feedback.”

Life with Cancer’s partnership with Side-Out Foundation seeks to improve access to Life with Cancer’s services and to encourage national outreach. Side-Out Foundation and its Dig Pink® Volleyball Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign recently launched a first of its kind clinical trial to examine the effects of individualized treatment on patients with metastatic breast cancer. Individualized treatment, known as targeted therapy, provides doctors a better way to tailor cancer treatment and offers the hope of more precisely targeting the cancerous cells, which would reduce side effects and improve quality of life.
