CBTF Awards Social Worker of the Year to Constance Connor

constanceconnorCBTF awarded Social Worker of the Year to Constance Connor on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at the Association of Pediatric Oncology Social Workers (APOSW) annual conference. Mrs. Connor is a licensed clinical pediatric oncology social worker at Life With Cancer, Inova Health System in Fairfax, VA. She was nominated by her medical team. A quote from her nomination stated “I have rarely met a social worker as dedicated, as productive, as caring, as creative and as effective as Connie. I also want to add as intelligent, because the way she goes about doing her job takes considerable brain power. Other nominees include Christa Burke, Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center; Donna Hammontree, The Children’s Hospital at Memorial University Medical Center; Tracy Howk, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta; Theresa Huntley, Children’s Hospital and Clinics of Minnesota; and Miriam Burkett-Scott, Mission Hospital Children’s Clinic. Congratulations to all of you.

The mission of APOSW is to provide psychosocial oncology care through clinical social work practice, research, advocacy, education, and program development. Social workers assure the families fully understand their diagnosis, treatment and the lifelong impact of the a pediatric cancer diagnosis. We provide much needed support not only during times of crisis, but throughout the cancer continuum. We are the needed voice at school systems, with insurance companies, and in helping families explain cancer to other family and friends. We conducting research to advance clinical knowledge or evaluate practice effectiveness.
