
Anne Carlson Schirmer joined Life with Cancer’s Child and Adolescent Program at the start of 2022 as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with almost two decades of experience in pediatric oncology working both in the inpatient and outpatient settings in the Washington, DC area. She offers evidence-based assessment and treatment interventions for children, adolescents, and young adults with cancer and their families. She addresses coping/adjustment to illness, anxiety, depression, grief/loss, and other areas of psychosocial concern that may be present during one’s journey with illness.
Anne is a native of Virginia and earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. Her clinical interests include adjustment/coping with illness, anxiety and depression, mindfulness based stress reduction, and grief/loss. Anne helps her clients recognize their own unique strengths as they learn new skills that build resilience and insight. In her free time, Anne can be found playing with her daughter, practicing yoga, going on hikes, and discovering a new beach with her family and friends.
