Cheryl Hughes, MSW, LCSW

Behavioral Health Therapist, Oncology

Cheryl Hughes has over a decade of experience providing supportive care to cancer patients and their families. After earning her master’s degree in social work from Catholic University’s National Catholic School of Social Service, Cheryl completed postgraduate certifications in Palliative and End-of-Life Care as well as Traumatic Grief Counseling. Reflecting her deep respect for complementary healing arts, Cheryl is both a master-level Reiki practitioner and yoga instructor. She received mindfulness training at the Mind-Body Medicine Program at Georgetown University Medical School, and completed trainings in both Mindful Self-Compassion and Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction.

Using cognitive therapies with an emphasis on mindfulness, Cheryl helps her clients recognize their own unique strengths as they learn new skills that build resilience and insight. In addition to providing counseling to individual patients and caregivers around anxiety and stress reduction, grief/bereavement, survivorship and parenting through cancer, Cheryl facilitates support groups at Life with Cancer and in the community. She’s an avid hiker, spends as much time as possible outdoors and travels whenever (and wherever) she can.
