Julie Ackerman, MSW, LCSW, OSW-C

Manager of Oncology Nurse Navigation and Counseling

Julie is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who joined Life with Cancer in 2017 and serves as the Manager of Oncology Nurse Navigation and Counseling at Inova Fair Oaks and Inova Loudoun hospitals. Julie earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Finance at Virginia Tech, and received her Master’s degree in Social Work at UNC-Chapel Hill. She has worked in the healthcare setting since 2009 and understands the psychosocial impact of illness and disease on patients and families. In 2018 Julie was named the Virginia State Representative for the Association of Oncology Social Works (AOSW) and presented at the AOSW national conference on the topic of leadership in oncology social work.

Before joining Life with Cancer, Julie worked with adults infected with HIV/AIDS as a mental health therapist, and with children diagnosed with Sickle Cell disease. She also worked with battered women and rape survivors, and was an active speaker on these issues in the community. Julie’s areas of interest include adjustment to illness and understanding the effects of stress and anxiety on health, as well as cognitive behavioral therapy. Julie lives in Ashburn with her husband Scott and their five children and enjoys traveling, cooking, and spending quality time with her family.
