Oncology Clinical Therapist

Maureen is a licensed clinical social worker with an Oncology Social Work Certification. Maureen joined Life with Cancer in 2014 after having been a social worker in Radiation Oncology at Inova Alexandria Hospital since 2004. Maureen’s areas of interest are adjustment to illness, use of complementary therapies, sexuality and intimacy, survivorship, end of life, and grief/bereavement. In addition to providing counseling to individual patients and caregivers, she facilitates many support groups, and is the social worker in Radiation Oncology at Inova Fair Oaks Cancer Center.

Prior to joining Inova, Maureen was a home care social worker with Capital Hospice from 1999-2004. Maureen moved from New York to Northern Virginia in 1997. She previously worked in the psycho-oncology program at Long Island Jewish Medical Center after receiving her MSW from Adelphi University. She graduated from Georgetown University with a BSBA and spent many years in retail management before returning to school for her MSW.

In her free time, she enjoys travel, time with family, and regular outdoor exercise with friends.
