Oncology Clinical Therapist

Melanie is an Oncology Clinical Social Worker who joined Life with Cancer in 2019. In her role as a Oncology Therapist, Melanie provides education, resources, and counseling to patients of the Potomac Radiation Oncology Center in Woodbridge. In addition, Melanie provides counseling to members of the community managing cancer. Melanie earned her Bachelor’s degree at the United States Military Academy at West Point and served in the U.S. Army for eight years. She received her Master’s degree in Social Work at Case Western Reserve University. Prior to coming to Life with Cancer, Melanie has served as a mental health therapist, providing treatment to children and families, adolescents and adults managing issues of depression, anxiety, adjustment, suicidal ideation, self-harm, trauma, and loss. Melanie has worked with victims of domestic violence, homelessness, sexual abuse, loss, bereavement, depression and anxiety, and is an active speaker on these issues in the community as a speaker and Youth Mental Health First Aid Instructor.

Melanie feels honored and humbled to be a part of the team at Life with Cancer, providing support for patients and family members through vulnerabilities and challenges. As a long-time yoga & meditation instructor, her areas of interest include mindfulness, meditation, yoga, mind-body tools for wellness, and expressive arts. Melanie lives in Alexandria with her husband, two children, and two therapy dogs.
