Shairna Curtis, RN, BSN, OCN

Oncology Nurse Navigator

Shairna has a deep commitment to patient–centered care and strives to provide individualized support and resources to a diverse patient population. She works extensively with breast cancer patients focusing on education, support, advocacy, and survivorship including facilitating programs specifically tailored to the needs of young women with breast cancer. In addition to her work with breast cancer, Shairna has a special interest in palliative care and symptom management. She serves on the Fair Oaks Palliative Care team and has completed advanced training through the End of Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) to help ensure comprehensive and compassionate care at every stage of a cancer journey. Shairna has a love of learning and is currently pursuing a master’s degree at George Washington University. She feels honored to be a part of the Life with Cancer team and have the opportunity to help support patients and families through some of life’s most challenging obstacles.

Shairna brings a diverse background to the Fair Oaks Life with Cancer team. She began her career focusing on secondary school education and has a BA in Mathematics as well as a Psychology minor from The College of New Jersey. After staying home for several years raising four boys, Shairna returned to school at George Mason University where she obtained her BSN in 2013. Upon graduation Shairna was immediately drawn to the field of Oncology and worked as an inpatient nurse on the adult Hematology/Oncology unit at Inova Fairfax Hospital. She is an active member of the Oncology Nursing Society and the Fairfax Medical Reserves Corp.
