Jemma joined the team at Life with Cancer in May 2021. As a licensed clinical social worker, Jemma strives to provide evidence-based and culturally humble care to children, adolescents, and families impacted by cancer. Jemma received her Bachelor of Social Work degree from James Madison University, and her Master of Social Work degree with a specialization in Health Care Practice from the University of Washington.
Jemma provides therapeutic support, education, and resources to pediatric oncology patients and their families in the Pediatric Specialists of Virginia Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. In addition to being available in clinic, she provides both individual and group therapy, and can be found facilitating numerous pediatric programs, including Curious About Cancer, Grief Circle Workshops, and the AYAs in Treatment Hangout.
Previously, Jemma has held social work roles providing intensive in-home counseling to children and adolescents, and assisting families navigate hospitalization in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Her areas of interests include pediatric bereavement, anticipatory grief support, palliative care, and supporting the Adolescent & Young Adult population. In her free time, Jemma enjoys reading, creative writing, and spending time with her cats and loved ones in beautiful Loudoun County.
